This afternoon my OH and I watched 1408. This is a great film. I saw it at the cinema. WE bought the DVD a while ago- It is the Directors cut. So was looking forward to seeing a bit of extra unseen footage.
But wait a minute. I don't remember that ending? 
Did they change the ending? I am sure that in the cinema the bloke got out. But on the DVD, something entirely different happened. Did they change the ending for the Directors cut? Or am I living my own version of the film, where nothing seems real?

I really enjoyed 1408, wasn't sure what to expect when I rented it. Really wished I hadn't watched it at night in bed but I loved it.

I watched both, think I prefer the one were he gets out. Although I liked the twist of the other one.

there are two endings, one where he gets out and he and his wife get back together, they move to a new place and she dosent belive that he saw their dead daughter until she hears the girls voice on his tape recorder.
or theres the ending where he dies and its his funeral, samuel l jackson has the box of stuff in the car and see's a vision of the mike enslin in the back seat of the car.
personally i liked the version where he got out, theres more closure with the wife getting to hear her dead daughters voice, jsut my personal opinion.
i bought the region 1 release with 2-discs. it had two versions of the film on the two discs, theatrical and the directors cut with commentary and there was way more, as i think you noticed in the longer cut... like the ventalation shaft bit is way longer with that monster thing that crawls after him. the theatrical version cut most of that bit out and loses a lot of tension i found by doing so.
