Sadly,I was watching the One Show and the animal roadshow was in Newcastle, and someone had brought a tortoise in to find out the sex of it. The question was "How do you find the sex of a tortoise"
"A bit rough at first, but you get used to it" I thought
But seriously.... how can you tell if a tortoise is male or female? Apparently you check their underside, if it is curved inwards it's male so that when they mount the female, it fits nicely with the curve of the shell.
That seems a bit hit and miss if you ask me. I reckon the best way to check if a tortoise is female is by putting it in a car. If it can't reverse round corners, it's a female!

Or...... Seeing as they are in Newcastle. If the tortoise goes out clubbing with lots of other tortoises in the middle of winter wearing a short skirt and strappy top. then it must be female!

How would you tell if a tortoise is male or female?
