Crop rotation in the medieval times leads to a jolly good fallow

by cj592 @ 2007-10-07 - 17:56:07

I remember when I was doing medieval history at school, we had to learn about crop rotation. If I remember rightly it involved a set of fields which would harvest different crops at different times on a rotational basis so that the soil could replenish different nutrients at different times. So one time a field would have wheat and another would have barley, then the next time the wheat field would have barley and the next would be turnips. And every now there would always be a fallow field at some point.

Now I had this drummed in to me as I imagine many people did.... including Rafa Benitez. Because his new player-picking style is reminiscent of the old medieval crop rotation system. But in this report my hero Peter Crouch defends the system.

Talented striker Peter Crouch believes there's no reason why Rafa Benitez should ditch his rotation policy at the squad.

That's all well and good, but ditches were never even involved in the rotation system! It had to be fields.
But in the recent 2-2 draw with Spurs, I wonder if Crouch would feel the same. This was on the BBC site

Manager Rafael Benitez made five changes for this game, with Peter Crouch deemed not even worthy of a place on the Liverpool bench.

Not even on the bench eh Peter? Does that make you the fallow field?

For he's a jolly good Fallow, For he's a jolly good Fallow, For he's a jolly good Fallow, And so say Benitez!

Dancing Queens

by cj592 @ 2007-10-07 - 11:22:36

I am catching up with yesterdays Strictly Come Dancing. I like this new format where the results show is on Sunday, because last year I never really bothered with it because I knew the result before I had chance to watch it.
Bruce Forsthe is really old now isn't he! He is fluffing his lines a lot. Still it probably wouldn't be the same without him.

MatDe Angelo (Dino From Eastenders) didn't do a bad job really. It was entertaining to watch.
Brian Caplon (The Granny's crumpet?) seemed to be doing a Richad Hillman on that dance.
Dominic Littlewood enjoyed himself there (Its nice to see him let his hair down) My OH really likes him. She says she goes for the 'not naturally attractive but has a cheeky charm' sort of person. .... Hey hold on........!!!
Willie Thorne. I can't see him lasting long. Although it's good to see him enjoying himself. The judges liked him- are they feeling compassionate due to his 'size'
Next is Gethin Jones (It's the dancing you should be watching SMinchin!!). He did a good job, but I thought the dance was uninspired. Hopefully better things to come from them. I am surprised the judges scored them low though.
And our two action sportsmen, who tend to do well. Kenny Logan and John Barnes. Kenny looks a bit unconfortable with the small steps (obviously I am such an expert :)) NOT!) You can see on his face... Concentrate-2-3. And as for John I have some advice for you....
You’ve got to hold and give. But do it at the right time
You can be slow or fast. But you must get to the line

Wow. He really shouldn't be wearing such a tight shirt 8| It's like watching a storm in custard!
It's just the men dancing tonight, the girls did a joint venture. It's great to see Stephanie Beecham- what a diva! And just how tall is Penny Lancaster????? Kelly Brooks is really slutting it up! But my favourite is Alisha. Wowwwwweeee!

The final thing is on tonight but it's up against X-factor again. I see there is another X-factor on earlier this afternoon. Is that a repeat from last night? Plus does anyone know if the Robin Hood on BBC1 today is a repeat from yesterday, because I missed that too!
