I've just come back from the cinema and saw the typical load of previews. But there is one film that I have seen previewed that really surprised me- because I had seen it a few times before and I had only just realised something.
And that film is the new version of Hairspray, starring John Travolta and Michelle Pfieffer.
I remember seeing the old version ages ago- starring a young Ricki Lake! I thoroughly enjoyed it (although I can't remember what it was about now) but I do remember the mum being played by Divine, a drag queen. I did wonder who would play the mum this time.

I also wondered why I hadn't seen John Travolta in any of the clips for the new film..... and then it hit me. I was looking for John Travolta in totally the wrong type of role. And here he is, in his new role...

Now I recognise him, it's obvious. Can you believe that's John Travolta? He'd have thought that when JT sang 'you're the one that I want' to Olivia Newton John, he was actually referring to her hairstyle

I think I am going to enjoy this new film. Apparently it's a cross between the old film and the stage show.

What I saw:
Charley gets evicted. The crowd are silent. They are all holding "This is a fake crowd" cards. Charley hears someone shout "You're a fat ugly cow". Davina takes Charley to be interviewed. Charley sees who nominates her. Charley gets interviewed. Charley re-enters the house amidst a chorus of "Get Charley Out".

What Charley Saw:
Charley gets evicted. The crowd are silent. They are all holding "This is a fake crowd" cards. Three really fit guys want to chat her up but they can't because it's a fake show. Charley hears someone shout "You're a fat ugly cow", but she knows that they don't mean it because it is a fake show. Davina takes Charley to be interviewed. Charley sees who nominates her. Charley can't believe that anyone would nominate her. Charley gets interviewed. Charley gets a pep talk by the entire production team all praising her. Charley re-enters the house amidst a chorus of her fans adoringly shouting "We love you Charley". Charley sees everyone holding huge billboards showing her own face. Charley see loads of people wearing "WE love you Charley T-Shirts". Charley sees loads of posters slagging off everyone that Charley hates. Davina tells Charley that she wants to call her new baby "Charley". Gordon Brown offers Charley a job as the spokesperson for youth. The Queen walks out of a photo shoot just to join the thousands of Charley fans in the crowd. Three wise men arrive bearing gifts for Charley. The Angel Gabriel comes from above and heralds the arrival of Charley back into the house. The whole host of heaven appear singing "We love you Charley". The doors of the big brother house part in a scene reminiscent of Moses parting the Red Sea in The Ten Commandments. Charley glides back into the house.
