Derby Days: Day 5 Dirty bums and big bums

by cj592 @ 2006-08-04 - 23:31:16

Friday 4th August
And it was morning in Matlock Bath. But will the breakfast be better than the last lot? Surely that cannot be difficult. And the breakfast certainly made up for the previous few days. It was lovely. A choice of eggs (scrambled being my favourite); Two sausages, a real tomato; beans mushrooms and Black Pudding. nice toast and a refill on Tea and Coffee. It was superb! (We do like our food)
Now the plan was to head North into the peaks and find a B&B for tonight!
So we headed towards Castleton.
We visited Speedwell Cavern a mine which had been flooded and involved an underground boat ride, which was brilliant.
When we left my OH informed me that I had rather a dirty ass. Damn I had worn my white Chino's. Now It looked like I had messed myself 8|
We then visited the blueJohn mine. (I told you we spent most of the holiday underground). The blueJohn is still mined here out of season, and I think out guide was one of the miners, given the way he spoke passionatley about it. He also had the three midle fingers on one of his hands missing. Perhaps from a mining accident- didnt like to ask! It was the that my OH asked the question that all men dread. And my repsonse did not go down well.
The question was "Does my bum look big in this cavern?". Perhaps I should not have replied "What Cavern?"
After that we visited Peveril castle, which is on top of a very steep hill. I heard on kid trying to egg on his old mum, who had stopped halfway up, saying "Come on mum, I'll be a hundred before we get to the top".
After a nice cup of tea we headed to Eyam village, Historically known as the plague village. There is an interesting but sad story attached to it and it is worth a visit.
By now it was 4pm and we should be thinking about finding a place to stay overnight. The plan was to find a B&B and travel home in the morning. However we thought 'Why pay another £60 and travel in the morning when we can travel home now and save £60' So thats what we did.
We travelled home, via the A14 and M11 so as to avoid the horrible road works on the M25.
And thus ended our ghostly and dark holiday.
And I loved every minute (Except for the breakfasts)
