I was googling around this morning (looking up bad luck) and I came across this question. It is on a yahoo page where someone asks a question and people add there own answers to it.
The reason that it struck me was firstly becaue of the question and secondly because I liked one of the asnwers.
The reason the question struck me is because my dad died on his birthday (It was cancer and his condition had been deteriorating) but we had celebrated his birthday a few days before. Some may say it was lucky that we did as it got the family together one last time before he died.
Now there are several answers to this question on the site. If you want to see them they are here, and you may have your own feelings to add on the subject.

But my favourite answer includes a Babylon 5 quote

I think it's the dying that counts, not the date. So yes, it's very bad luck indeed.
And now, a word from Baylon 5:
"Zathras not of this time.
You take, Zathras die. You leave, Zathras die.
Either way, it is bad for Zathras." -- Zathras
