New Earth and Cassandras clever twists

by cj592 @ 2006-04-15 - 21:28:33

Cat People, Body Swapping, Plague Zombies, Enigmatic weird Face creatues in glass jars... its all there in the new Doctor episode tonight. I have already posted a little review on the scifi blog but just a couple of things I thought were good and Bad
Bad: The story at the end seemed a little rushed. The conclusion of curing the plague w=vistims with the mixture of fluids seemed a little 'lucky'
But the good made it great. I loved the twist at the end, All her life Cassndra has been pusruing beauty because she remembered the last person who told her she was beautiful. And then finding out that that last person was actually her returning to that moment was clever! Plus the fact that she created CHip the clone as a copy of her favourite body, because it was the one that told her she was beautiful was also very clever.
Next week Werewolves: Cj Junior is getting very excited

"I can't sell you this"

There have been a few blogs of recent days describing incidents when certain bloggers have been unable to buy alcohol in supermakets. I am now going to describe the time when it nearly happened to me.

It was a normal shopping day a few years back; I must have been in my late twenties- certainly old enough to buy liquor! It was also nearly my Brother in Laws birthday so I thought I would buy him a bottle of whiskey. AS I approached the tills I noticed one which didnt have a long queue with a nice young lady serving.
As I unloaded my shopping, the queue started building up behind me. She scanned all the items without any problems until she got to the Whiskey. She stopped. Looked at the bottle, then looked at me. Then She placed it down and said "Sorry sir I can't sell you this" and rang the little buzzer that is hidden under the till.
Now I am not very old looking but I was pretty sure that I looked old enough to buy alcohol- After all there are fourteen year olds that get served no problem and they are bound to look younger than me. But perhaps I just had a very youthful face, so in my most manly sounding voice I asked "I am old enough to buy it"
At this point the people in the queue behind had started paying attention and was feeling slightly embarrassed/
The till girl looked at me and smiled
"Yes sir you might be old enough to buy it, unfortunately I'm not old enough to sell it to you" I was a bit relieved that it wasn't me, however the fact that I had to wait for someone older to sell it to me did not go down well with the people still queuing behind.

You must be choking

Had a shock awakening this morning. I have been suffering froma cold as you may know, well this morning as I woke up a tried to take a breath in but found I couldn't. My throat had swolen up and constricted, I could only take short rasping breaths. I couldn't even breath through my nose as it was blocked. I started to panic whislt trying to breath- It sounded scary as it woke my OH up who screamed jumped out of bad and ran around not knowing what to do. I was writhing on the bed gasping for the little bits of air I could get. I was also coughing/spluttering trying to unblock my throat. Eventually my nose became unblocked so I could breathe through it, which made it easier, and that calmed me down. But it was frightening for a moment. MY OH was shaking for a while afterwards
