At the back of a cupboard, Behind lots of boxes that I haven't opened in years, I found a folder. This folder was covered in dust. It had not been opened for years but I recognised it. It contained the lyrics of songs that I had written when i was 14. 14 years old and determined to be a pop artist. As I read them, I cringe quietly to myself as I remember wanting to be the next member of Frankie Goes to Holliwood. (Please tell me that I am not the only one that has one of these folders)
Anyway I thought I would use this blog to record one of those songs.
Song number 16
Title: Love, Peace and Porcupines
Date: 4/6/86
I have heard the songs of Love and Peace
But that's behind the times
So here's a song I wrote about
Love, Peace and Porcupines
The love songs that I hear today
Are slow and sung off key
The records that you sometimes buy
Just don't appeal to me
And Peace songs, really what's the point
There is no better life
I've had better conversations
Talking to the wife
Now porcupines are really nice
When you get to know 'em
So how comes no-one wrote a song
Or even wrote a poem?
Porcupines make great best friends
They really love a chat
And soon they'll be more popular
Than a pussy cat
So forget the songs of love and peace
They're all behind the times
And let's write songs and dedicate
them to the porcupines.
Yes I really did write that on that date!
